How It Works

Free assessment (optional): We start with a 45-60 minute assessment where the tutor meets your child, reviews their current level, and identifies the specific topics that need attention. This is not a test. It is a conversation starter.

Weekly or intensive sessions: Most students have one or two sessions per week. Some students prefer intensive blocks before exams. We are flexible.

In your villa or online: We come to your villa in Canggu, Ubud, Sanur, Seminyak, or surrounding areas. We also offer online tutoring via Zoom with digital whiteboards and screen sharing.

Tutor matching: We match your child with a tutor who has biology teaching experience and knowledge of the specific syllabus they are studying. IB biology tutors are different from IGCSE biology tutors. We know the difference.

Progress tracking: After every session, the tutor sends a brief update. Every four weeks, you receive a formal progress report.

Syllabi We Cover

IB Biology (HL and SL): We cover all core topics and option topics. We can also help with the Internal Assessment and Extended Essay.
Cambridge IGCSE Biology: We cover all topics in the 0610 syllabus, including Core and Extended papers. We know the past papers and mark schemes.
A-Level Biology: We cover all major exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR) at AS and A2 level. We can help with practical skills and exam technique.
Australian Curriculum: We cover biology at Year 10, 11, and 12 levels, including VCE, HSC, and WACE.
Indonesian National Curriculum: We cover biology at SMP and SMA levels (Biologi).

FAQ

Can the tutor help with my biology IA?

Yes. Our IB biology tutors can help with every stage of the IA: choosing a topic, designing the experiment, collecting data, analysing results, and writing the report. We do not write the IA for the student — we guide them through the process. We can also suggest topics that use Bali's unique environment.

Do you provide past papers?

Yes. We have access to past papers and mark schemes for IGCSE, IB, A-Level, and Australian exams. We use these in sessions to build exam technique and confidence.

Can you do field-based biology tutoring?

Yes. For ecology and plant biology topics, we can conduct sessions outdoors: in rice paddies, botanical gardens, or coastal areas. This is especially valuable for IAs and for students who learn best through direct experience. We ensure safety and respect for the environment.

What if my child is struggling with the maths in biology?

Some biology topics require maths: population genetics, statistics in ecology, respiration calculations. Our tutors can identify whether the problem is biology understanding or maths skills, and address both. We can also combine biology tutoring with maths tutoring.

Can you tutor online?

Yes. We offer online biology tutoring via Zoom with digital whiteboards and screen sharing. This is ideal for students who need specialist biology support but live outside our in-person areas.

Biology Exam Preparation in Bali's International Schools

Bali's international schools follow a range of biology curricula, and our tutors adapt to each one. Whether your child is studying at Green School, Canggu Community School, Bali Island School, or homeschooling, we align our sessions with the syllabus, pace, and assessment style they are following. We communicate directly with parents and, when appropriate, with school teachers to make sure our tutoring supports classroom learning rather than conflicting with it.

For students approaching mocks or final exams, we run structured exam preparation programmes. These typically begin eight to twelve weeks before the exam period and cover every topic in the syllabus, with extra time allocated to areas where the student has lost marks in the past. We teach students how to manage their revision timetable, how to use mark schemes effectively, and how to approach the different question types they will meet on exam day.

When students are new to biology terminology, we build a vocabulary notebook together so they can explain processes in their own words. This is especially important for EAL learners who understand the concepts but need confidence expressing them in exam English. Because many of our families split their time between Bali and other countries, we can coordinate tutoring across time zones and maintain continuity when students travel.
