Who This Service Is For
We tutor students who are struggling with chemistry, preparing for exams, or want to deepen their understanding of the subject. The students we work with usually fall into one of these groups:
- IB Diploma students who need support with HL or SL chemistry, including the Internal Assessment and option topics.
- IGCSE students who need to understand organic, inorganic, or physical chemistry before their exams.
- A-Level students who are studying chemistry at advanced level and need help with complex topics and practical skills.
- Secondary students who are finding chemistry difficult at school and need patient, one-to-one support to catch up.
- Students preparing for university who need chemistry for medicine, pharmacy, engineering, or science courses.
- Adult learners who want to understand chemistry for personal interest or professional development.
Common Chemistry Tutoring Needs in Bali
- Organic chemistry — naming, reactions, mechanisms, isomerism, functional groups. The most challenging topic for most students.
- Inorganic chemistry — periodic trends, bonding, redox reactions, transition metals. Often taught too quickly at school.
- Physical chemistry — energetics, kinetics, equilibrium, electrochemistry. Requires strong maths skills as well as chemistry understanding.
- Analytical chemistry — titrations, chromatography, spectroscopy. Important for practical exams and IAs.
- Internal Assessment (IA) support — for IB students who need help designing, conducting, and writing their chemistry IA.
- Exam technique — past paper practice, mark scheme analysis, how to structure answers for maximum marks.
- Practical skills — for students who need help with laboratory techniques, safety, and experimental design.
How It Works
Free assessment (optional): We start with a 45-60 minute assessment where the tutor meets your child, reviews their current level, and identifies the specific topics that need attention. This is not a test. It is a conversation starter.
Weekly or intensive sessions: Most students have one or two sessions per week. Some students prefer intensive blocks before exams. We are flexible.
In your villa or online: We come to your villa in Canggu, Ubud, Sanur, Seminyak, or surrounding areas. We also offer online tutoring via Zoom with digital whiteboards and screen sharing.
Tutor matching: We match your child with a tutor who has chemistry teaching experience and knowledge of the specific syllabus they are studying. IB chemistry tutors are different from IGCSE chemistry tutors. We know the difference.
Progress tracking: After every session, the tutor sends a brief update. Every four weeks, you receive a formal progress report.
Personalised study plan: Within the first two sessions, the tutor builds a focused plan that lists the topics to cover, the practice papers to complete, and the skills to strengthen. The plan is updated as your child improves.
Syllabi We Cover
- IB Chemistry (HL and SL): We cover all core topics and option topics. We can also help with the Internal Assessment and Extended Essay.
- Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry: We cover all topics in the 0620 syllabus, including Core and Extended papers. We know the past papers and mark schemes.
- A-Level Chemistry: We cover all major exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR) at AS and A2 level. We can help with practical skills and exam technique.
- Australian Curriculum: We cover chemistry at Year 10, 11, and 12 levels, including VCE, HSC, and WACE.
- Indonesian National Curriculum: We cover chemistry at SMP and SMA levels (Kimia).
- University chemistry: We can support first-year university chemistry courses.
What Makes Our Chemistry Tutoring Different
- Subject expertise: Our chemistry tutors are not generalists. They are chemistry specialists with teaching experience and deep subject knowledge.
- Conceptual understanding: We teach the why, not just the what. We explain reaction mechanisms, bonding theories, and energy changes so students can predict reactions, not just memorise them.
- Visual learning: Chemistry is visual. We use molecular models, diagrams, animations, and real-world examples to make abstract concepts concrete.
- Real-world connections: We connect chemistry to Bali's real world: the chemistry of volcanic soil, the chemistry of traditional Balinese dyes, the chemistry of coral reefs, the chemistry of medicine.
- Exam technique: We teach students how to read exam questions, identify the chemistry being tested, and structure their answers for maximum marks.
- Safety awareness: For practical chemistry, we emphasise safety and proper technique. We teach students to respect chemicals and handle them responsibly.
FAQ
Can the tutor help with my chemistry IA?
Yes. Our IB chemistry tutors can help with every stage of the IA: choosing a topic, designing the experiment, collecting data, analysing results, and writing the report. We do not write the IA for the student — we guide them through the process.
Do you provide past papers?
Yes. We have access to past papers and mark schemes for IGCSE, IB, A-Level, and Australian exams. We use these in sessions to build exam technique and confidence.
Can you help with organic chemistry?
Yes. Organic chemistry is our most requested topic. Our tutors can explain mechanisms, naming, reactions, and isomerism in ways that make sense. We use molecular models and visual aids to help students see the structures.
What if my child is struggling with the maths in chemistry?
Many chemistry difficulties are actually maths difficulties — especially in physical chemistry (kinetics, equilibrium, energetics). Our tutors can identify whether the problem is chemistry understanding or maths skills, and address both. We can also combine chemistry tutoring with maths tutoring.
Can you tutor online?
Yes. We offer online chemistry tutoring via Zoom with digital whiteboards and screen sharing. This is ideal for students who need specialist chemistry support but live outside our in-person areas.
Chemistry Tutoring Across Bali's International School Community
Bali's international school families are spread across Canggu, Ubud, Sanur, Seminyak, Jimbaran, and Uluwatu. Students from Green School, Canggu Community School, Dyatmika School, Bali Island School, and Sanur Independent School often follow British, IB, or Australian curricula, and chemistry is frequently the first science where the step up in difficulty becomes obvious. Our IB tutors in Bali and Cambridge IGCSE tutors in Bali know the exam styles and mark schemes used at these schools, so revision time is spent efficiently.
Because our tutors travel to your villa, sessions fit around the island's rhythms: a morning lesson before surf camp, an afternoon session after school, or an intensive block during term breaks. We bring molecular models, past papers, and digital resources, so students do not need to carry extra materials. For families in more remote areas such as Seseh, Pererenan, or Tabanan, online chemistry tutoring with a shared whiteboard delivers the same specialist support without the travel time.
Combining Chemistry with Related Subjects
Chemistry rarely stands alone. Students studying IB or A-Level chemistry usually need strong maths for physical chemistry and physics for related concepts such as gases and energy. Many also take biology for medicine or environmental-science pathways. We offer coordinated support with maths tutoring in Bali, physics tutoring in Bali, and biology tutoring in Bali, so your child does not have to explain the same syllabus twice.
For exam season, our exam preparation in Bali programme brings together past-paper practice, time-management strategies, and subject-specific technique across multiple sciences. Book a free student assessment or contact us through our contact page to discuss the right plan.
