Writing Tutor in Bali

Private writing tutors in Bali for essays, creative writing, academic writing, and exam preparation. Primary, secondary, IB, IGCSE. In-villa or online.

Who This Service Is For

We tutor students who are struggling with writing, want to improve their writing skills, or need to prepare for writing-based exams and assessments. The students we work with usually fall into one of these groups:

  • Primary students who are learning to write sentences, paragraphs, and stories. Often children who struggle with handwriting, spelling, or organising their ideas.
  • Secondary students who need to write essays, reports, and analytical texts for school. Often students who have ideas but do not know how to structure them.
  • IB and IGCSE students who need to write essays, IAs, and exam answers. Often students who understand the content but lose marks on writing quality.
  • Students with dyslexia or dysgraphia who need support with spelling, handwriting, and organising written work.
  • English language learners who can speak English but need to develop writing skills for academic or professional purposes.
  • Adults who want to improve their writing for work, study, or personal projects.

Common Writing Tutoring Needs in Bali

  1. Essay writing — structure, argumentation, evidence, analysis, and conclusion. The most common request for secondary and exam students.
  2. Creative writing — stories, poems, descriptions, and narratives. For students who want to develop their imagination and voice.
  3. Academic writing — formal language, citation, referencing, and academic conventions. For IB, IGCSE, and university students.
  4. Exam writing — timed writing, planning under pressure, and writing to a mark scheme. For students preparing for IGCSE, IB, or national exams.
  5. Spelling and grammar — for students who have good ideas but lose marks on technical accuracy.
  6. Handwriting and presentation — for students with dysgraphia or poor handwriting that affects their grades.
  7. IB Internal Assessment writing — for students who need help writing their IAs in clear, structured, academic English.

How It Works

Free assessment (optional): We start with a 45-60 minute assessment where the tutor meets your child, reviews a sample of their writing, and identifies the specific skills that need attention. This is not a test. It is a conversation starter.

Weekly sessions: Most students have one or two sessions per week. Writing is a skill that builds with consistent practice and feedback.

In your villa or online: We come to your villa in Canggu, Ubud, Sanur, Seminyak, or surrounding areas. We also offer online tutoring via Zoom with shared documents and real-time editing.

Tutor matching: We match your child with a tutor who has writing teaching experience and knowledge of the specific type of writing they need. Creative writing tutors are different from academic writing tutors. We know the difference.

Progress tracking: After every session, the tutor sends a brief update: what was covered, what the student wrote well, what needs more work, and what the next session will focus on. Every four weeks, you receive a formal progress report with writing samples.

Writing Types We Cover

  • Essay writing: We teach structure (introduction, body paragraphs, conclusion), argumentation (thesis, evidence, analysis), and style (formal language, clarity, concision). We cover all essay types: argumentative, analytical, comparative, and evaluative.
  • Creative writing: We teach narrative structure, character development, setting, dialogue, and descriptive language. We help students find their voice and develop their imagination. We run creative writing workshops and story-building exercises.
  • Academic writing: We teach formal language, paragraph structure, citation and referencing (APA, MLA, Harvard, Chicago), and academic conventions. We help students write IAs, research papers, and extended essays.
  • Exam writing: We teach timed writing techniques: planning in 5 minutes, writing under pressure, and checking work. We practise with past paper questions and analyse mark schemes.
  • Business and professional writing: For older students and adults, we teach email writing, report writing, proposal writing, and professional communication.
  • Journalism and media writing: For students interested in journalism, we teach news writing, feature writing, and editing skills.

What Makes Our Writing Tutoring Different

  • Specialist training: Our writing tutors are trained in writing instruction, not just English teaching. They understand the writing process: planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing.
  • Process approach: We teach writing as a process, not just a product. Students learn to plan, draft, revise, and edit. They learn that good writing is rewriting.
  • Genre awareness: We teach students to write in different genres: essays, stories, reports, poems, and scripts. They learn that different writing tasks require different approaches.
  • Real audiences and purposes: We give students real reasons to write: letters to real people, stories for real readers, essays on real topics. Writing is meaningful when it has a purpose.
  • Feedback, not just marking: We do not just mark writing and hand it back. We discuss the writing with the student, explain what works and what needs improvement, and teach strategies for improvement. Feedback is a conversation, not a verdict.
  • Bali context: We use Bali's environment, culture, and current events as writing topics. We encourage students to write about what they know and care about. This makes writing relevant and engaging.

FAQ

Can you help with IB Extended Essay writing?

Yes. Our tutors can help with every stage of the Extended Essay: choosing a topic, researching, planning, drafting, and revising. We teach academic writing conventions, citation, and critical thinking. We do not write the essay for the student — we guide them through the process.

Can you help with creative writing?

Yes. We love creative writing. Our tutors can help with stories, poems, scripts, and personal narratives. We teach narrative techniques, character development, and descriptive language. We help students find their voice and develop their imagination.

My child hates writing. Can you help?

Yes. Many children hate writing because they have been taught it as a chore, not a skill. We make writing enjoyable: we give students choice, purpose, and audience. We celebrate their ideas and help them express them clearly. Many reluctant writers become enthusiastic writers with the right support.

Can you help with handwriting?

Yes. For students with poor handwriting or dysgraphia, we teach handwriting techniques, letter formation, and spacing. We can also recommend assistive technology if handwriting remains a significant barrier.

Can you tutor online?

Yes. We offer online writing tutoring via Zoom with shared documents and real-time editing. This works well for essay feedback, academic writing, and creative writing. We use Google Docs or Microsoft Word for real-time collaboration.
