Who Homeschool Tutoring Is For

Homeschooling in Bali is growing. Many families choose it because they want flexibility, because they are dissatisfied with local schools, because their child has learning differences that mainstream schools cannot accommodate, or because they are travelling and cannot commit to a single school. Whatever your reason, we can help.

We work with:

  • Full-time homeschool families who want a complete weekly timetable delivered by a professional tutor.
  • Part-time homeschool families who want tutoring for specific subjects while they handle the rest.
  • Worldschool families who travel frequently and need flexible, portable tutoring that fits their itinerary.
  • Families with children who have learning differences (ADHD, dyslexia, autism) who need a learning environment tailored to their child's needs.
  • Families transitioning between schools who need temporary academic support while they decide on their next school.
  • Families preparing for exams (IGCSE, IB, A-Level) who need intensive subject tutoring outside the school system.

Full-Time vs Part-Time Support

Full-time homeschooling: We provide a tutor who visits your villa for 3-5 days per week, typically 3-4 hours per day. The tutor delivers a structured curriculum covering all core subjects: maths, English, science, history, geography, and art. We can also include languages, music, and coding. The tutor brings all materials, plans all lessons, and tracks progress. The parent is not required to teach but is encouraged to observe and participate.

Part-time homeschooling: We provide tutoring for specific subjects on specific days. For example: maths and English on Monday and Wednesday, science on Friday. The parent handles the rest of the curriculum. This is popular for families who want to supplement their own teaching or who want specialist support for subjects they are not confident teaching.

Intensive support: We provide daily tutoring for a short period (e.g., 2-4 weeks) to cover a specific topic or prepare for an exam. This is popular for families who are travelling and want to keep their child on track.

Online tutoring: For families who travel frequently, we offer online tutoring via Zoom. The tutor delivers lessons, shares materials, and tracks progress digitally. Online tutoring is not as effective as in-person tutoring for younger children but works well for ages 10+.

Curriculum Mapping and Planning

We design curriculum plans that align with your family's educational philosophy and goals.

UK National Curriculum: We map the full UK curriculum from Early Years to Year 11. We cover all subjects and use UK-standard textbooks and resources. We can prepare students for UK common entrance exams if needed.

US Common Core: We map the US Common Core standards from Kindergarten to Grade 12. We cover all subjects and use US-standard textbooks and resources. We can prepare students for SAT or ACT if needed.

Australian Curriculum: We map the Australian curriculum from Foundation to Year 12. We cover all subjects and use Australian-standard textbooks and resources. We can prepare students for NAPLAN if needed.

IB PYP and MYP: We design inquiry-based programmes that align with the IB PYP and MYP frameworks. We focus on transdisciplinary learning, conceptual understanding, and the learner profile.

Unstructured/Worldschool: For families who want a flexible, experience-based approach, we design custom learning plans that incorporate travel, nature, culture, and real-world projects. We do not follow a rigid curriculum. Instead, we follow the child's interests and use the world as the classroom.

Indonesian National Curriculum: For families who want their child to maintain Indonesian curriculum alignment, we provide support for Kurikulum Merdeka subjects.

In-Villa or Online Sessions

In-villa tutoring: The tutor comes to your villa. This is the most effective option for most families. The child is in their own environment, which reduces anxiety and increases focus. The tutor brings all materials. Sessions are typically 3-4 hours per day, 3-5 days per week.

Online tutoring: The tutor delivers lessons via Zoom. This is ideal for families who travel frequently or live in remote areas. The tutor shares materials digitally and uses interactive tools. Sessions are typically 1-2 hours per day, 3-5 days per week. We recommend online tutoring for ages 10+.

Hybrid tutoring: A mix of in-villa and online. For example, in-villa when the family is in Bali, and online when they travel. This is popular for worldschool families.

Socialisation and Group Learning

One of the biggest concerns for homeschool parents is socialisation. We address this through:

Group tutoring: We can arrange group tutoring sessions for 2-4 children at the same level. This provides peer interaction, collaborative learning, and social skills practice. Group tutoring is 15% cheaper per child than individual tutoring.

Homeschool co-ops: We work with homeschool co-ops in Canggu, Ubud, and Sanur. These are groups of homeschool families who meet regularly for group learning, field trips, and social activities. We can provide tutors for co-op sessions.

Field trips and excursions: We incorporate Bali's environment into learning: rice paddy biology, temple history, volcano geography, beach ecology, and market maths. These outings provide social interaction and real-world learning.

Extracurricular activities: We can help families find sports clubs, music groups, art classes, and other extracurricular activities that provide socialisation opportunities.

Parent Reporting and Progress Tracking

We provide comprehensive progress tracking for homeschool families:

Weekly lesson plans: The tutor provides a weekly plan at the start of each week. This includes learning objectives, activities, resources, and homework.

Daily session notes: After each session, the tutor writes brief notes about what was covered, what the child did well, and what needs more work.

Monthly progress reports: Every four weeks, we provide a formal progress report with: a summary of topics covered, assessment of the child's progress against curriculum standards, areas of strength, areas for improvement, and recommendations for the next month.

Termly assessments: Every term, we conduct a formal assessment to measure the child's progress against curriculum benchmarks. This includes standardised tests, portfolio reviews, and parent-teacher meetings.

Portfolio: We help families build a portfolio of the child's work, which can be used for school applications, exam registration, or documentation of learning.

Travel-Friendly Scheduling

Many homeschool families in Bali travel frequently. We accommodate this through:

Flexible scheduling: We can pause tutoring when you travel and resume when you return. We do not charge for cancelled sessions if you give us 48 hours' notice.

Online tutoring: We can switch to online tutoring when you travel. The tutor continues the same curriculum via Zoom.

Travel packs: We can provide travel packs: worksheets, reading lists, and project ideas that the child can work on independently while travelling.

International coordination: If you travel to another country, we can help you find a tutor there or coordinate with your next tutor to ensure continuity.

Example Homeschool Families

Scenario 1: The Full-Time Homeschool Family (Ages 7 and 9)

A family from Australia moved to Canggu and decided to homeschool their two children. They wanted a structured curriculum but also flexibility. We designed a four-day weekly timetable: maths and English on Monday and Wednesday, science and art on Tuesday, history and geography on Thursday. The tutor brought all materials and adapted the curriculum based on the children's interests. After six months, both children were at or above grade level in all subjects. The parents reported that the children were more engaged and confident than they had been in school.

Scenario 2: The Worldschool Family (Ages 10 and 12)

A family from the UK travelled full-time and spent three months in Ubud. They wanted their children to maintain academic progress while experiencing the world. We provided a two-day weekly tutoring schedule: maths and English on Tuesday, science and history on Thursday. The tutor incorporated Ubud's environment into lessons: a biology lesson about ecosystems became a walk through the rice paddies. When the family travelled to Lombok, the tutor switched to online sessions. When they returned to Ubud, the tutor resumed in-person sessions. The children maintained their academic progress and developed a love of learning through travel.

Scenario 3: The Part-Time Homeschool Family (Age 14, IGCSE)

A family from Singapore had a 14-year-old daughter who was struggling with maths and science at her international school. They decided to homeschool her for IGCSE while continuing to tutor her in other subjects. We provided a tutor who visited three times per week for maths and science IGCSE preparation. The tutor used past papers, exam technique, and syllabus coverage. After eight months, the student achieved an A in maths and a B in science on her IGCSE exams.
