Subject tutoring
One-to-one chess lessons at your home or villa: openings, strategy, thinking habits and preparation for rated play, for children and the adults who play with them.

Lessons build a thinking player, not a memoriser of opening lines. Foundations first: rules done properly, checkmate patterns, and the habit of checking every opponent threat before moving. Openings are taught as principles — what a good opening is trying to achieve — rather than rote sequences.
Tactics follow: pins, forks, skewers and discovered attacks, trained through puzzles until patterns become automatic. Strategy covers pawn structure, piece activity and planning. Endgames are taught patiently, because they are won on precision. Between lessons, a little puzzle practice keeps the patterns warm.
Lessons combine play and study: positions analysed together, short puzzle sets, and games with the tutor where every move is discussed. Online lessons use a shared digital board and work from beginner level upwards.
For tournament preparation, the focus shifts: playing under a clock, recording moves, managing time, and reviewing lost games without flinching. The emotional side matters as much as the technical side — a child who can lose calmly and learn improves faster than one who cannot.
Children from around age six upwards: the beginner who has just learned how the pieces move, the school-club player who keeps losing to the same traps, and the keen teen preparing for rated or tournament play. Parents are welcome to sit in; more than a few have ended up learning alongside their children.
Chess is a small, specialist part of our work. Tell us your child’s level and goals and we will say honestly whether we have a suitable tutor right now. If we do not, we will say so rather than send the wrong person.
Regular lessons build skill, habits and confidence. Ratings and results depend on the player, the practice between lessons and the opposition on the day. We never promise particular ratings or tournament outcomes. The first-session refund policy applies to chess exactly as it does to maths or English: if the first session is not right, tell us within 48 hours and we refund that session in full.
Most chess briefs sit on the Standard rate of IDR 500,000 per hour for children. Specialist briefs may sit at Master (IDR 1,000,000). Your written quote confirms the rate, travel arrangements and any additional costs before booking. There is no long-term contract.
Send a few lines on WhatsApp: your child’s age, how long they have played, and what they would like to achieve. We reply within one working day and tell you whether a suitable chess tutor is available. Where a match exists, we confirm the expected time for your tutor profile after the discovery call.
Most children are ready from about age six, once they can sit with a game for half an hour. Younger children sometimes manage with shorter, play-based sessions; tell us the age and we will advise honestly.
