Learning support
A classroom assistant supports your child’s access to lessons, participation and daily routines. Arrangements are agreed with the school and coordinated with the class teacher.

A classroom assistant is an educator who supports a child inside their classroom during the school day: keeping them on the task, re-explaining instructions and helping them take part. Schools often use the title interchangeably with shadow teacher.
Parents usually write when the school has suggested extra in-class support, or when they can see that their child needs one consistent adult beside them to get the most from lessons.
A classroom assistant works within the teacher’s lesson, not around it. They rephrase instructions, break tasks into steps, prompt starts and help the child ask for help appropriately.
We are tutors, not clinicians — we do not diagnose or treat. Where needs are clinical, we signpost families to educational psychologists and paediatricians.
The assistant’s day follows the school timetable. In lessons they sit nearby, intervening lightly and stepping back whenever the child is coping. At break and lunch they support the social side of school.
Support is faded by design. As routines become habits, the assistant does less, and the arrangement is reviewed with you and the school each term.
We reply within one working day and confirm educator availability and profile timing after the discovery call. School permission is required before in-class support begins. Our checks cover identity, qualifications, references, an interview and a demonstration lesson, with any police clearance recorded. We confirm the proposed educator, responsibilities, rate and arrangements in writing before the first session.
A classroom assistant is not a teacher, a therapist or a substitute for the school’s own provision.
A clear boundary: In-school support is educational only. For diagnosis or therapy, we signpost families to qualified professionals.
The roles overlap heavily, and schools use the terms differently. Our shadow teacher page describes the arrangement in more detail.
It depends on the school. Ask the learning-support team whether parent-funded in-class support is permitted, then tell us the outcome.
A classroom assistant works alongside your child at school, with school permission and coordination with the class teacher. Any separate home tutoring is discussed as a different arrangement. The written quote confirms the location, schedule and travel costs.
We reply within one working day and confirm the expected time for your tutor profile after the discovery call. We agree on the first session once you have reviewed the profile and confirmed the arrangements.
Tell us and we change the plan or the tutor. First-session refund terms apply if you notify us within 48 hours.
Full tiers and terms are on the pricing guide. Your rate is confirmed in writing before the first session.
