School and private tuition compared
Compare the school pathway described by ACS Bali with private subject teaching, while separating admissions, qualifications and individual learning goals.

ACS Bali’s official curriculum page describes Cambridge International study through Grades 1 to 10, leading towards IGCSE, followed by an IB Diploma pathway in Grades 11 and 12. That published description provides a starting point, not a substitute for checking the current intake. Ask which year groups, subjects and qualification arrangements are operating for your proposed entry date.
Private Tutoring Bali is not another ACS campus or an alternative school qualification provider. We arrange teaching around selected needs. A family choosing a school must evaluate the complete programme, whereas a family choosing tuition should identify the particular learning objective. Keeping these decisions distinct is especially important when school plans, subject availability and a child’s next educational step are all being discussed at once.
A pathway connects stages of education over several years. A tutoring goal might be much narrower: understanding a mathematical method, improving a written explanation or learning how to review errors in a practice paper. The existence of a planned qualification pathway does not mean every student needs extra lessons, and the availability of a tutor does not replace the school’s role in delivering that pathway.
Ask admissions for the exact course details and any requirements for progression. Then, if support is needed, share those details with the proposed tutor. Do not book generic exam preparation before knowing the subject code, level, exam year and reason the learner is struggling. A precise brief makes it easier to judge tutor suitability and avoids spending time on resources that belong to a different course.
ACS Bali publishes admissions guidance and FAQs, including information about progression and entry at qualification stages. Read the current policy and ask the admissions team how it applies to your child. Do not assume that completing a tutoring package creates an entitlement to admission or bypasses a school assessment.
If a family wants preparation, define it as learning rather than a promise of a place. A tutor can help a student practise explaining their reasoning, revisit gaps or become comfortable working independently. The tutor should not claim access to confidential assessment material or guarantee an admissions result. Parents can ask what evidence would show genuine readiness and what alternative plans exist if the desired entry point is not available.
School combines academic teaching with routines, classmates, wider activities and shared expectations. ACS Bali’s campus information should be read alongside a visit and direct questions about the year group. Ask which facilities and activities your child would actually use, how the timetable works and what support is available when a learner needs help.
A tutor at home can devote the appointment to one child’s learning task, but does not reproduce a school’s peer environment or facilities. If you are considering home-led education instead, decide how group experiences and practical subject work will be organised. A private academic timetable can be designed around selected priorities; that is not evidence that the rest of a school day has no educational value.
A hypothetical student may complete many practice papers without improving because the same errors are never examined carefully. One useful tutoring brief is to classify a small set of mistakes: missing knowledge, misread instructions, unclear working or poor time allocation. These categories guide the next teaching task rather than becoming labels attached to the learner.
After teaching, use an unfamiliar question to see whether the student can apply the idea independently. Simply repeating a corrected answer can create a misleading impression of mastery. Keep the practice linked to the current course and avoid completing assessed submissions for the child. Our guide to reviewing mock-exam mistakes provides a structured way to organise this conversation with a tutor.
If a child needs help with one concept, a private lesson can concentrate on that concept rather than covering a broader class agenda. The tutor can adapt the next question to the learner’s response. This is a practical distinction in how attention is allocated, not a claim that a short lesson equals a full day of school.
Agree what the student should be able to do afterwards and how you will revisit it later. A result achieved only with the tutor beside the child may not yet transfer into independent work. Duration and frequency should respond to evidence, energy and the agreed objectives. More intensity is not automatically better, especially when a student already has a demanding timetable and needs time to consolidate learning.
Ask ACS Bali for a current, itemised fee schedule and written terms for the proposed intake. Clarify compulsory charges, payment timing, withdrawal conditions and what is included. Do not rely on a founding-family offer, another family’s historical payment or a headline fee without checking whether it applies to your child.
For private teaching, request the proposed subject scope, session length, frequency and rate. If this would supplement school, consider the additional cost and workload together. If the family is planning a home-led alternative, budget for the rest of the educational arrangement too. Comparing only the teaching bill would omit supervision, materials, social opportunities and any separately arranged formal assessment or programme fees.
Choose a school by its actual programme, people, setting and suitability for your child. Choose additional tuition by the learning problem it is meant to solve. Ask both providers specific questions and record their answers so an attractive description does not substitute for a defined commitment.
If your child is comfortable in school and there is no identified gap, there may be no reason to add tutoring. If a particular topic or study habit is holding them back, a focused plan can be discussed. If you want a complete alternative educational arrangement, recognise that tutoring is only one possible component. This comparison does not imply ACS endorsement or any official relationship with Private Tutoring Bali. For a useful first review, keep two examples: an early attempt and a later answer completed without assistance. Ask the student to explain the difference between them. This can show whether they have learned a method, understood an instruction or simply memorised a correction. The next decision is then grounded in their work, with any continued lessons directed towards the remaining difficulty.
Explore teaching support at Private Tutoring Bali and use our fee guide to plan the cost of additional lessons. When you discuss preparation with us, describe the topic, exam technique or transition difficulty you want to address. School applications and admissions questions should be directed to ACS, while we help define the appropriate learning support.
School admissions remain with ACS Bali. We can discuss learning support but do not promise admission, progression or a particular assessment result.
A school pathway includes programme delivery and institutional responsibilities. Private tuition addresses agreed learning goals and does not itself award IGCSE or IB qualifications.
Ask ACS directly about the operating programme, subject choices and qualification arrangements for the intended intake. A general pathway description is not a personalised offer.
